About Us

ALS in Home Care LLC has been serving patients in the Baton Rouge area for 20 years. Our experienced caregivers provide in-home care 24 hours, 365 days a year, for you and your loved one who need extra support on a daily basis.

The founder of ALS in Home Care noticed that there were not enough trained caregivers who understood how neurodegenerative diseases like ALS, dementia, or Alzheimer’s works. She saw a great need for caregivers for ALS clients who were not getting proper care from suitably trained individuals. Most companies send a CNA out to a client’s home, and while the CNAs try their best, they often wouldn’t understand the needs of the client. What ALS in Home Care teaches is the importance of the small things and paying attention to detail.

The caregivers at ALS in Home Care are trustworthy, dependable, and highly skilled. Our staff is personally trained to provide a much higher standard of care than other companies. It is not just “sitting” it is caring! The ALS in Home Care staff genuinely cares about your loved one and family.

Why Choose Us

When families reach out to ALS in Home Care, they are normally at a very critical time in their personal journey with caring for a loved one. Our job at ALS in Home Care is to allow you to just be a daughter or son by taking that weight off of your shoulders. We want to comfort you and your family during this time of transition with your loved one.

Letter of Recommendation For Carla Ennis

To Whom It May Concern:

Carla Ennis started working for my mom, Sammye Carter, as a Caregiver on December 11, 2017. Carla was responsible for mom’s total care including all personal care, meal preparation and light housekeeping. She is trustworthy, compassionate, entertaining and funny. She arrived on time and filled in many times for other caregivers. She can supervise other caregivers and manage the responsibilities of a Lead Caregiver. She enjoys a challenge and learning new things. Carla has gone over and beyond for our family. One particular day, she cooked and served dinner for our family. Even though she is no longer working with mom, she continues to do special things like arranging a day for my mom to get out of the house, which was no easy task.

Any family would be blessed to have Carla as a Caregiver for their loved one.

Sincerely,

Brenda Pilcher

To Whom It May Concern,

Carla Ennis requested I write a letter of recommendation on her behalf. Ms. Ennis was employed by my in-laws, Kathy and Tom Stuckey, from September 2015 to April 2016. Ms. Ennis was employed as a caregiver for Ms. Stuckey who was diagnosed with ALs. Initially, Ms. Ennis worked a couple of days a week working 4 hour shifts. Once rapport was established, Ms. Ennis’ shift frequency and duration greatly increased.

Ms. Ennis served as Kathy’s lead caregiver. Ms. Ennis would assist Kathy with her ADLs. ADLs included toileting, bathing, washing and drying hair, dressing, and brushing teeth. As the disease progressed, Kathy required great assistance with ADLs. Equipment was brought in to help ensure Kathy and Ms. Ennis’ safety. Ms. Ennis knew how to correctly use all equipment and provided family training. Kathy’s equipment ranged from a walker, scooter, power wheelchair, both manual and power lifts, shower wheelchair and wheelchair accessible van.

Ms. Ennis also agreed to dispense Kathy’s prescribed medicine and administer tube feedings. Ms. Ennis utilized a medication log as well as kept a journal. She would alert family in ample time to order supplies. Ms. Ennis also assisted in Kathy’s use of respiratory equipment, which included a AVAPs, cough assist and suction machines.

Ms. Ennis’ role did not stop with medical care. Ms. Ennis also transported Kathy around Baton Rouge in a handicapped accessible van. Ms. Ennis became Kathy’s hands and feet when she no longer had the use of them.

Ms. Ennis also scheduled additional caregivers. Ensured they were trained and could provide appropriate care. Ms. Ennis communicated with Hospice as well as followed physician and nursing orders.

During Ms. Ennis’ employment, she demonstrated professionalism, empathy, compassion and provided a service to Kathy and our family that will never be forgotten.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Stuckey

RE: Letter of Recommendation for Carla Ennis

To whom it may concern,

It is my pleasure and honor to recommend Carla Ennis for employment as a personal caregiver and/or for her caregiver staffing services, ALS In Home Care. Carla first came into our family’s life around February, 2018 as a caregiver for my mother who was diagnosed with ALS in 2015. From then until August, 2019 when my mother passed away, Carla served as her primary caregiver, even living with Mom for days at a time during the week as her disease progressed. Over the last year, we utilized her staffing service also, in which she organized a schedule of skilled caregivers to fulfill Mom’s need for 24 hour/day services.

As a personal caregiver, Carla has extensive knowledge of ALS and how to care for patients who suffer from this rare disease. She taught me and my sisters, along with many other caregivers, how best to care for our Mom. Her daily tasks included every aspect of personal care including: waking Mom; managing prescription medications, organizing meds for the week, administering medications by mouth and eventually through a feeding tube; showering her using a shower chair; dressing her, diapering, doing make-up, hair, personal hygiene; transferring manually at first, then as the disease progressed, using manual hoyer lifts and ceiling lift; feeding using mickey button and feeding tube with pump; knowing how and when to utilize a Trilogy breathing machine; suctioning excess saliva; operating her customized power chair and driving it; transferring power chair to handicap van and taking Mom on errands and outings such as doctors’ appointments, haircuts, movies, and even Broadway shows; grocery shopping; light housework including laundering soiled sheets and clothes, dishes; managing supplies such as diapers, wipes, food, etc..; working as a team with Hospice staff; using electric pool lift to aid mom in enjoying her pool. She traveled with our family on various trips to the beach and even to Italy which would not have been possible without her! On our Italy trip, Carla took initiative to learn how to disassemble and reassemble the power chair so that it could safely fly with us.

As a staffing coordinator, Carla provided us with an extremely trustworthy, hardworking, skilled, and reliable group of caregivers who genuinely cared for our mother’s well-being. Each and every one of them became like family, and we are forever grateful for them. I would certainly recommend Carla to anyone with ALS and can only pray that she shares her knowledge with as many others as possible. Please feel free to contact me or my sisters with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Re: Recommendation for Carla Bergeron

To whom it may concern:

I was initially impressed with Carla’s enthusiasm, communication skills and professional demeanor when I hired her 2 years ago as a in-home nurse. She consistently demonstrated all of these qualities and more, and I heartily endorse for senior care and disability care.

My mother has Dementia. During her 13 months of service, Carla reported to me and my sister. Carla is reliable, dedicated and eternally upbeat. Her ability to calm angry or frustrated dementia patents is unparalleled, and it is because of her excellence in this area that I repeatedly asked her to mentor myself and my sister when taking care of my mother.

Of particular value to me is her attitude and respect for my mother as a human being. It is not easy to watch a person degrade mentally over time. Carla believes her efforts make a difference in the lives of patients and I firmly agree.

Carla is a hardworking, Organized and diligent professional. She has my highest recommendation, and I am happy to furnish more details if you would like additional information.

Sincerely,

John Brumfield
